CIEF is successful in introducing the rewarding careers available in the built environment to high school students in large part because of the number of volunteers. Whether you are interested in mentoring, serving on an event committee, or being an industry judge, we need you! Below is a list of current CIEF committees. CIEF BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Trustees provide the strategic and fiduciary oversight for CIEF. They are responsible for all working committees of the Foundation, including the CREATE Mentoring Program, CREATE Summer Camp, the Design Build Competition (both Northern California and Southern California), the NEXT Young Professionals, the Clay Shoots, Golf Classic, Trades Day and Scholarships.

- The Trustees meet quarterly, in January, April, July, and October 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In even years one meeting is replaced by a two-day retreat.
DESIGN BUILD COMPETITION® COMMITTEE
Since 1985, we have provided high school students the opportunity to design and build a 96 sq ft structure as part of the Design Build Competition in California. In 2023 we were excited to have expanded into Texas. Students submit plans for their structure by February, which are reviewed by a group of Design Professionals and returned to each school. The students compete in Northern and Southern California and Texas to construct their structure and awards are given for best architecture, craftsmanship, and safety, among other awards. An Industry Lunch is held for sponsors and supporters on the second day of the event. For more information on the competition, please visit www.designbuildcompetition.com.

- The Texas Design Build Committee meet monthly from August until April by video call on Tuesdays (North Texas) and Thursdays (Gulf Coastal) from 9:00 am – 10:00 am central time. Volunteers from Architecture, Construction, Marketing, and Safety Professions are needed.
- The California Design Build Committee meet by video call on Tuesdays (NorCal) and Thursdays (SoCal) from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm . One meeting in the fall and monthly meetings from January – May. Volunteers from Architecture, Construction, Marketing, and Safety Professions are needed.
CREATE COMPETITION ADVISORY BOARD
The CREATE Competition exists to educate and inspire high school students to pursue career pathways which create the built environment. Industry professionals mentor student teams in a twelve-week competition to answer a real-world problem. Students learn about career opportunities in architecture, engineering, and the construction trades, visit local architecture and engineering offices, visit active construction job sites, attend Trades Day and compete with other regional high schools in front of industry judges. - This advisory board meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 4:00 pm – 5:30 p.m. Meetings are held monthly from June through December with a planning retreat in March.
CIEF SUMMER CAMP ADVISORY BOARD
Students experience a five-day, four-night camp that introduces them to careers in construction, re-development, engineering, architecture, and the trades. They will design and build a project for a local nonprofit, complete a needs assessment, meet industry executives, tour active job sites, explore the city and stay overnight in the university dorms.

- This committee will meet every two weeks from 12:00 pm - 12:40 pm starting the last week of April. Volunteers are needed to help organize guest speakers, job site visits, the nonprofit build day and to serve as champions of the camp to the design and construction industries at large. Design, Construction, Engineering, Marketing, Fund/Business Development and Safety Professionals are needed.
NEXT YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ADVISORY BOARD
The NEXT Young Professionals Advisory Board works to build the relationships of young professionals from the construction industry (architects, interior designers, developers, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other industry related professionals) through education and engagement with each other and senior professionals in the industry. This Advisory Board is responsible for Contractors Caring for Kids, Lunch with a Decision Maker, and Brew Bikes, along with other educational, social, and philanthropic events and programs.

High school students, teachers, and guidance counselors experience a day of exploring career opportunities in Construction and the Trades. From brick laying, hammering nails, experiencing BIM, climbing on excavators, and learning the importance of PPE, for many, this is their first opportunity to experience a hands-on opportunity of a career in the trades.
Volunteers are needed from General Contractors and Sub-Contractors who can help recruit hands-on exhibitors and general financial support of the event. Visit www.tradesday.org to find a Trades Day in your region.
